I have been marketing online now since early 2001. Back then I was in your shoes. No knowledge of what works, very little money to invest in my business and very little time to get things working. The stress I felt at that time in my life was immense.
I tried for about a year to make money online. I used eBay and eventually made a pretty decent income from it. Then the competition got too high and I bailed. Back to square one.

That's my main gripe with affiliate marketing.
I started getting serious about my online business and I wanted a plan that would allow me to have a business based on the following three principles:
- Full control over EVERYTHING. I own the products, I get paid 100% of any sales. I get to build up a solid list of proven buyers to market future products and services to.
- Multiple Streams Of Income. A business with income coming from several sources so if one suddenly went belly up, I had all the others to fall back on.
- Low Maintenance. A businesses that runs itself without me having to spend 13 hours a day tending to it. A business that allowed me to buy the things I wanted and needed. A business that allowed me to spend time doing the things I enjoy like travelling and spending time with my family and friends.
To me, those three principles were the foundations for a successful business. Let me re word that...

Back to my story...
During this time as an affiliate marketer, I decided that all my effort promoting other peoples products had to stop. I no longer wanted to spend days setting up affiliate campaigns and spending time and money promoting them for a cut of any sales.
I wanted the lot and more. But I continued. I kept on the roundabout of promoting other peoples products for a cut of the sale.
WHY???
The thought of creating my own product to sell sent me into a pit of mental despair.
First there is the market research... finding that "hungry" niche that is ready to send you money. Then finding out what they want to buy, their problems... their fears. After that you must spend weeks creating a product tailored to this market. Then you have to either design your own graphics and minisite to show off the product or you have to pay someone else to do it...
Next up it's onto writing the sales copy and wondering if it will be good enough to convert people who see your letter into paying customers! Finally you need to start your promotions and tear your hair out trying to get people to see your shoddy salespage and spend sleepless nights hoping that someone will buy your product... someone, somewhere will actually see value in what you are offering...
Research -> Product Creation -> Mini Site Design -> Sales Copy Writing -> Promotion.
I don't know about you but all those steps left me thinking "There MUST Be An Easier Way."
Surely I don't have to go through this process anytime I feel like adding another income stream to my business? I just wanted a faster and less brain numbing way of making money. An easier life...
After all... the whole point in running your own business is to give yourself more time to enjoy the things you want to do with your life. Not on creating product after product trying to keep your head above water. Doing that is just another J.O.B!
